Recently CCP Games-« gave us access to historical sales-figures for material on the New Eden marketplaces, including those for DUST514-« equipment! Following this, some of us have been looking at importing, analysing, and presenting this data for various purposes, though it seems most of the effort has been on the EVE Online-« side, where this type of data is used as a driver in Supply Chain Management setups. In DUST514-«, we have no SCM-related functions, no open access to markets, no scarcity and no floating prices or player-to-player trading, so our interests would naturally differ from those of the EVE Online-« players. Instead, the data can tell us about trends in usage, what is popular, or (perceived) GÇ£Over PoweredGÇ¥ (OP), what are we likely to meet on the war-torn fields of New Eden, and, conversely, what we may be able to avoidGǪ
In the following bit, IGÇÖll present some basic data-points, that may be of general interest, but those that want to see more (incl. pretty pictures!), can look at the announcement of the Market Data section of Dust.Thang.DK in this post.
Note: If there is a general wish for it, IGÇÖll see about writing more posts on this topic, reviewing events and other scenarios, with posts in this thread.
First, lets look at the most-sold weapons in DUST514-« (lifetime, end of January 2013): Militia Submachine Gun - 56.341.326 @ 15.737.849.550 ISK GEK-38 Assault Rifle - 35.862.211 @ 437.335.924.350 ISK Militia Shotgun - 18.024.340 @ 11.665.841.900 ISK Militia Assault Rifle - 17.879.221 @ 11.080.612.410 ISK Submachine Gun - 17.436.917 @ 19.887.911.975 ISK
Yes, there are more Militia Submachine Guns sold, than #2 and #3 together. Even the regular Submachine Gun doesnGÇÖt manage Gàô of the numbers that the MLT version has managed! This also has to be held up against the fact that Logistic-suits have been without sidearms for a while, meaning SMGs must have been fitted on the majority of the until-recently less-popular dropsuitsGǪ
Meanwhile, we can see that the value of the MLT SMGs sold is less than 1/20th of the 2nd-most popular weapon, the GEK-38 Assault Rifle. Digging into this, we get: GEK-38 Assault Rifle - 35.862.211 @ 437.335.924.350 ISK Duvolle Assault Rifle - 8.098.325 @ 387.887.974.740 ISK MH-82 Heavy Machine Gun - 7.769.086 @ 119.202.314.540 ISK Boundless Heavy Machine Gun - 2.074.381 @ 103.502.929.960 ISK Duvolle Tactical Assault Rifle - 1.334.762 @ 103.171.412.532 ISK
Suddenly the result is a bit different, with the GEK-38 Assault Rifle and the Duvolle Assault Rifle sitting on the lionGÇÖs share of ISK. This makes sense, since these were for a long time the only upper-tier rifles, and the go-to weapons for TryHards, Protokids and everyone else. Interesting is that the 2 upper-tier HMGs are ranked 3rd and 4th. Arguably a niche weapon with multiple drawbacks, it is still considered worth the cost, given that people have been spending 222 Billion ISK on them.
The currently most-sold weapon? Rail Rifle, at ca 67.000 pieces per day, over the last 10 days, with Combat Rifles selling just under 38.000 per day and Assault Rifles at ca 17.600 pieces.
I would like to extend a Thank You to Musta Tornius for helping review and proof these posts.

Guess I should reply to people :)
TL;DR: Thank you for your comments, and let me know if there are any specific areas you'd want to have a look at in a potential future post.

Edit: Did I miss something or is there no market data on Grenades sold? As a purveyor of these items for my little lottery it would be helpful to know how they are responding in the economy. I just haven't included grenades anywhere - they are in the data, but for things like The TryHardinator, eah set of data slows it down further :( Quick top 3 grenades, last 10 days: Locus Grenade - 727,139
- Flux Grenade - 677,088
- M1 Locus Grenade - 363,390

Jack Boost wrote:"This also has to be held up against the fact that Logistic-suits have been without sidearms for a while" - wrong state. If you dont have sidearm slot.. you still can use it. I'm assuming that the number of Logistic Dropsuits deployed with just a sidearm, qualifies as statistical noise. Similar for the number of Amarr Logis with both a light weapon, and a sidearm, though I'm fully acknowledging that it would be a higher quantity.
Justicar Karnellia wrote:The Tryhardinator is so funny... great stuff. well done! :) Thank you :) An early version of The Tryhardinator kept suggesting Amarr Heavy with Rail Rifles, but obviously that must have been a bug ....
Henry FitzEmpress wrote:Would be interesting to be able to compare the quantity of weapons sold with the quantity of kills each weapon has produced. Develop some sort of weapon efficiency rating or something. But i'm guessing we don't have the data from CCP to be able to do that yet.
I wouldn't have thought the militia SMG would be on top of the sales chart. I can't remember the last time I was killed by one. See my requests for an Aggregated Kill-Feed API in the Tech Lab, and if you think this would be interesting, go support it; it is specifically what we need for that sort of thing! Meanwhile, lot of people (myself included) bring sidearms even if we don't need them - to keep costs low, MLTs are good.

lithkul devant wrote:So, to put the grand total of how much ISK we are worth to EVE potential over 2 years is a Trillion Isk, since you did a life time analysis of Dust 514. What is the monthly average for gross product that Dust does in total is something I am intrested in just for grins to see how much we could be potentially worth to the EVE market place. I'm not sure if you would have this data or would care to answer it. Anyways good stuff to see. Dude... In a SINGLE week, Dust Bunnies spent just shy of 400 Billion ISK! I'll see about making a "Financial Report" later on, but 2 trillion is ... closer to monthly than Life-to-date :)

Just imagine how much higher those numbers could be if BPOs were taken into account.
*Haphazardly stuffs Toxin BPO in his back pocket* Correct, and I have an idea for looking at Blueprint AR usages before and after 1.7 was released. Btw, carefull with that Toxin ... they make holes everywhere!
Auris Lionesse wrote:1pawn dust wrote:What was the percentage of Caldari races buying RR compared to non race?
Caldari is typically a popular race for starters plus a lot of people have only been waiting 2 years for their racial weapon type, am interested in seeing what those figures are. Its a gallante weapon too. I hated the ar since I started the game. I can see WHERE the material is bought, but not by what races ... Yeah, I am Minmatar, and I live in Heimatar, but from talking with CCP, there is no guarantee that everyone in Heimatar are of Minmatar decent, or that all Caldari mercenaries live in Caldari space, due to how we are seeded...
castba wrote:Excellent post G Torq.
Very interesting to see that with all the recent whinging about scouts & heavies, the three most popular weapons are still rifles. Gracias! Looking at the data, the regular Shotgun is gaining ground RAPIDLY!
Piercing Serenity wrote:This is a very interesting and useful post, especially The Tryhardinator. Specifically, it shows some real imbalance in the game. For example, The Tryhardinator shows that plates account for almost two thirds (64.9%) of what people use in their low slots and that a shield extenders represent a little over half (54.2%) of what people use in their high slots. Here's what this information should say to us and CCP [chopped] CCP needs to sift through these numbers to see how they can shift the current meta so that more EHP is not always the best option. One thing we have to remember is, that it is not a measurement of usefulness, but usage. I rarely add extra HP to my suits, because I often don't see the usefulness, while others (most?) think it is all about HP vs DPS (like most other FPSes?), and simply do not look beyond that. See "Brick-Tanked Scouts" as an example. (or, see my basic scouts killing Proto Slayer-Logis, as the semi-rare example)
